Chapter 5. Pollution of the environment with heavy metals

A soon-to-be pharmacist should be aware of environmental pollution with heavy metals, pesticides, radionuclides and other xenobiotics. Toxicants can get into the body not only with food, water or air, but also with medicinal plants and drugs. Environmentally-derived heavy metals, pesticides and other highly toxic compounds can accumulate in plants and get into the human body with the food chain.
